A Brief History of the Piedmont Companies

The Piedmont Companies, Inc., a real estate development firm located in Lincolnton, North Carolina was founded by William L. Heafner more than 20 years ago with an initial desire to satisfy the housing needs for Lincoln and the surrounding counties. While the corporation thrived and became one of the top four manufactured housing enterprises in the nation, Mr. Heafner began to diversify the corporation and his personal interests to include a real estate agency, a residential housing division, a mortgage company and an insurance agency, as well as an increasing appetite for commercial real estate development.

Since 1998, our commercial development portfolio has grown to include more than forty completed retail facilities for related clients in both North and South Carolina that range in size from 12,000 square feet to 25,000 square feet. The successful completion of these projects led to negotiations with other related clients for the development and completion of retail facilities in Phoenix and Bullhead City, AZ, as well as, Canton and Buford, GA. We have provided other development services for clients in Washington DC, Chesapeake, VA, and North Port, FL.

Other completed projects in our development portfolio include:

* An 18,500 square foot retail shopping center located on Harris T. Boulevard, Charlotte, NC

* A commercial subdivision, which now contains four hotel/motels recently completed or currently under construction, in North Charleston, SC

* A two-story office building with warehouse space which serves as the new corporate headquarters for a regional landscaping firm relocating their corporate headquarters from Maryland to N. Charleston, SC.

* A campus project which includes a 12,800 retail facility, a 37,500 square foot warehouse facility, and a 25,000 square foot two-story corporate office complex in North Charleston, SC.

Piedmont recently finalized negotiations and the property purchase to bring a new Walgreen's to Lincolnton, NC. Construction of the Walgreen's is scheduled to begin in mid-August, 2009. Retail projects currently under construction include a 25,000 square foot retail facility in Little River, SC, a 25,000 square foot retail center in Bluffton, SC, a 18,000 square foot retail facility in Summerville, SC, and a 25,000 square foot retail project in Buford, GA.
